My name is Laurel Worobetz and I am the Indoor Maintenance Director for the Okanagan Housing Co-operative in Kelowna, B.C. Our co-operative consists of 58 townhouse style homes run by a volunteer Board of Directors. As the Indoor Maintenance Director I am responsible for planning renovations as well as repairs to the members units. For this process I am also responsible for obtaining quotes to have the necessary work completed. Through this process we found Mario Tardif (CWI – Custom Wallboard Interiors), and chose him (and continue to choose him) to do our renovations and repairs and I would like to take the opportunity to describe our experience with him
Business – Mario is not only a professional tradesman; the way in which he runs his company is very impressive. From the first time I met him I have consistently seen that he pays a great deal of attention to detail, provides thorough quotes, is always on time and prepared, is reliable and responsible, is easy to get hold of, and responds to communication in a timely manner. It is obvious that he truly cares about his customers and his business practices show this.
Pricing – It is our co-operative’s prerogative to make our renovations an investment. We know the old saying “you get what you pay for”. When comparing Mario’s quote against 4 others we found that although he wasn’t the cheapest, he wasn’t the most expensive and was still competitive. We noticed he asked the most questions and felt that his quote was the most thorough. He was the only one out of the 5 companies that submitted a professional list of references and a description/background on his company. This allowed us to see pictures of his work and contact his references. We chose him based on these factors and are happy with our investments.
Character – Mario is a pleasure to deal with. His demeanor is polite, courteous and professional. Also, the members who have had him do work in their unit (including myself) have all found no concern or worry with leaving him alone in their homes, as he is very trustworthy. He is refreshingly personable and honest in an industry sometimes associated with crassness and/or “slimy salesman” types.
Workmanship – Mario’s work is impeccable. Any renovation is stressful and can be hectic but Mario’s demeanor and skills allow the projects to go effortlessly and seamlessly. Listed below are some of the jobs Mario has completed:
– Full bathroom renovations ( including minor mold cleaning )
– Ceiling repairs which include matching textures
– Replacing sections of drywall
– Countertop installations
We have seen through all of the completed jobs that he is careful and detailed. You can see that he takes great pride in his work and you can rest assured that not only does it look amazing – it has also been done properly and impeccably.
There isn’t anything that I have been unsatisfied with (nor any of the members). I have had a fair bit of experience with tradesmen/women and I understand how much of an impact picking the right person can have on your project/investment (not only with respects to workmanship but also your overall experience). “Recently we had renovations completed in one bathroom, the kitchen and main entrance hallway.
The bathroom was freshly painted, the floor and area behind the vanity and toilet were tiled and a new textured ceiling was installed. All of this work was professionally completed by Mario. In addition, Mario was happy to help install a new light fixture over the bathroom vanity.
In the kitchen and hallway entrance the old flooring was covered in lino. This was all replaced with tile flooring. Mario took extreme care to lay the tiles with precision and to ensure that the pattern in the tile was most esthetically pleasing. Mario also installed all the kitchen backsplash tile as well as the new oak baseboards in the kitchen eating area.
The existing “sunshine kitchen” light box was removed and pot lights were installed. This made it necessary to have the entire kitchen ceiling re-textured. Mario completed the ceiling work and it looks amazing!
Throughout all the renovations Mario was always punctual, professional and extremely knowledgeable. His suggestions and recommendations were greatly appreciated.
